9 GOLDEN RULES of Investing

9 Golden Rules of Investing

Rules can be a good thing. They keep us out of trouble and help us avoid making
major blunders. Your investments are serious business. Your financial well-being and
retirement are largely dependent on your ability to invest your money effectively.

The golden rules of investing will serve to elevate your thinking when it comes to
your investing practices.

Consider these guidelines before you make another investment:

1. Know your starting point. What’s your net worth? Before starting any race, you
have to know where the starting line is located.

  • Take regular measurements of your financial situation to gauge your progress.
2. Avoid investing in a business or financial instrument you aren’t able to
   understand.
Warren Buffet has made it a point to never invest in high-tech
companies for the same reason. If you lack an understanding of derivative
products, that would be a good reason to stay away from investing in them.

  • If you’re unclear about the fundamentals of an investment, how will you know if it’s a good investment or if and when you should sell it?
3. Try not to invest and forget. Most investments require regular monitoring and
assessment. Market conditions can change, so try to remember to check on all
    your investments.

  • The company whose stock you purchased might suddenly start taking on a lot of debt.
  • Stay on top of the latest news and make any necessary adjustments to your investments.
4. Look past the price and the past returns. The real value of an investment isn’t
always evident by looking at the price or past performance. Take the time to dig
in and see if an investment has real value.

  • Sometimes an investment is underpriced because it’s a great buy
  • Sometimes it’s underpriced because it’s junk.
5. Remember to consider inflation. Most investors forget to consider the effects
of inflation when choosing investments. Investing is looking toward the future,
so inflation is an important consideration.

6. Always have the insurance coverage you need. Few things can disrupt your
finances and ability to invest more profoundly than an unforeseen disaster.

. Whether it’s a medical emergency, a tornado, or someone suing you
because they slipped on your sidewalk, you want to have adequate
insurance coverage to take care of it.

7. Make tax planning an ongoing process. Most people only plan for taxes at tax
time. However, the wise investor considers tax issues throughout the entire year.

  • Whenever you make an investment, consider what the tax implications might be.
  • A little bit of forethought can mean thousands of dollars in April and you can beat the tax man at his own game.
8. Have preparations in place for financial emergencies. If you lost your job
tomorrow, how long could you last financially? Would you be forced to sell your
portfolio and start over? If you lack an emergency fund, consider starting one as
soon as possible. When you need it, you’ll be grateful that you have it.

9. Retirement savings should take precedence. When retirement savings isn’t a
priority, you usually won’t have much of a retirement fund. We’re all prone to
putting things off until tomorrow. Start preparing for your retirement today.

  • Make your retirement a priority and you’ll live comfortably in your golden years.
Keep these 9 golden rules in mind to increase your investing success. Retirement
comes quickly, so try to put these rules into effect quickly.

Investing doesn’t have to be complex, but it does require discipline and planning. These
rules provide a framework that will allow you to stay on track.

Read This!!! READY TO DOUBLE YOUR INCOME!!

Doubling your income might sound like a far-fetched dream, but it doesn’t have to be. People tend to put a price on themselves. It’s common to think, “I’m worth $40,000 a year.” But everyone actually has infinite worth. You can’t just go out and buy someone exactly like you.

You are priceless.

The truth is that it’s the way you spend your time that determines your income, not your capabilities. A brain surgeon moonlighting as a garbage collector makes garbage collector wages during that time. He doesn’t make brain surgeon wages.

Use this process to double your income:

SET A GOAL:

❖ The best possibility for success always starts with a goal.
❖ Your goal should be specific, measurable, and achievable.
❖ Review it every morning and evening as you are lying in bed.

CREATE MORE VALUE:

❖ Brainstorm how you can provide the most value to others.
❖ What you provide might not be that valuable to one person, but if you
can deliver it to a lot of people, the total value is very high.
❖ Being the best isn't necessary. Your mechanic, lawyer, doctor, and
lawn care provider probably aren’t the best in their respective fields,
but they still get your money on a regular basis.

CONSIDER HIGHER EDUCATION:

❖ For example, the median nursing salary is now over $70,000 and the
schooling only takes about two years. Explore your options.

NEVER GIVE UP:

❖ Have you ever noticed that some of the most successful people you
know aren’t uniquely intelligent or talented? But if you really look,
you’ll likely find that they're incredibly tenacious. They simply never give up.
❖ Remind yourself that it’s impossible to fail if you keep adjusting your
     approach and never give up.

Doubling your income is simply a matter of doubling your value to the marketplace. Set a goal and find a way to deliver more value. If you’re truly committed, you’ll be successful. How much could your life change for the better if your income doubled?

5 LIFE LESSONS FROM WARREN BUFFETT

You might be wondering what super-investor Warren Buffett can teach you about life. You might be thinking that he knows a lot about money, but that has little to do with being an expert on life. You might be surprised.

Warren is famous for his simple lifestyle and love of his work.

Let these lessons in life be a guide for contentment in your own life:

1. Focus on what you love. Warren has a nice, but modest home, and drives a

$40,000 car. He could own the most expensive home and cars in the world but
he doesn’t. He drinks Coke, buys what he likes, and enjoys a relatively simple life.

*Enjoy your life and the things you have. Avoid being concerned about
what everyone else has or about what you could have. It’s more satisfying
to own one perfect painting than to own 10 that don’t thrill you. Seek out
the things you love and avoid wasting your time on the rest.

2.Quality is more important than quantity. You only need to make a few good
decisions to be incredibly successful. Warren Buffett has hundreds of billions of
dollars to invest for himself and others, yet he frequently only owns 20 or so stocks.
Be picky. Be happy with a smaller quantity.

*Warren has a very famous line that basically states, “Your financial wealth
would be much greater if you could only make 20 investments in your lifetime.
You would make sure they were great if you had only 20 chances.”

3. Do what you love. Warren has said that the most important part of success and
contentment is doing what you love every day.
That’s why he’s never stopped
investing and making money. If you’re spending your time doing what you love,
you continue doing the same thing regardless of how much money you have.

*You might not enjoy the career you have right now. But are you doing
anything to change that? Do you have a plan? Imagine how much more
content you would be if you enjoyed going into work each day.

4.Mind your own business. You needn’t be concerned with what the competition
is doing. Avoid being influenced by everyone else. If you do what everyone else is
  doing, you’ll simply be average.
Avoid comparing yourself to everyone else.

Follow your own intuition.

*Most of us are overly concerned with others. We’re worried about how
we compare. We’re worried about their opinions of us. They’re probably
thinking the same things. Get yourself out of that loop and do your own thing.

5. Stick to your talents. Warren is famous for shunning high-tech investments,
even when they were practically a sure thing. He has stated that he simply
doesn’t understand them well enough to invest in them. Stay in your areas of
strength. You don’t need to do everything. Focus on what you know well.

*We usually enjoy doing the things that showcase our strengths. That’s
human nature. It also makes life easier. Work on your weaknesses, but leverage
       your strengths.

You might be thinking, “Yeah, anyone could be content with $50 billion.” But that’s not
true. Studies have shown that happiness and income are only correlated to $75,000.
Above that income level, happiness does not increase.

Super wealthy people became wealthy largely because they were content living a
2particular way. You can be just as content, even if you never amass a mega-fortune.
Aim to increase the amount of contentment in your life. It might not be an issue of
money, possessions, or the other things that most people think lead to contentment.

Top 8 Signs That Your Business Opportunity Might Be a Scam

Top 8 Signs That Your Business Opportunity Might Be a Scam

Many opportunities to build a small business are scams, clearly disguised as legitimate offers. Many that aren’t scams fail to mention the risks or potential downsides involved.

The key to finding a legitimate offer is to keep your guard up and investigate the claims being made. If it sounds too good to be true, you probably have a good reason to be suspicious.

Avoid taking anything at face value and investigate all the costs. Many times, there are considerable start-up costs that are only mentioned in the small print, if at all. Whenever you’re dealing with a considerable amount of money, proceed with caution.

Watch out for these signs that you might be dealing with a scam:

1. Anything that claims to be ‘turnkey,’ ‘easy,’ ‘automatic,’ or claims to be little or no work should be examined with skepticism. If it were that easy, wouldn’t they just set up several income streams for themselves and keep it a secret?

     >If it’s easy and actually works, everyone would be doing it for themselves.

     >That would make the competition fierce, which would destroy any profits very quickly.

2. Vagueness is a warning sign. If the offer is vague enough that you don’t ever really               understand what is involved, that’s usually a sign to stay away.

   >Companies with legitimate offers want to give you all the details. They are proud of what      they have  to offer and want to tell you about it.

3. The revenue stream doesn’t make sense. How does the company making the offer make money?Do they primarily make revenue by charging you for training, advertising, a website, and other fees? If they’re not profiting, then they wouldn’t be making the offer.

4. The warranty is riddled with loopholes. You might find warranties that use words like              “possible,”  “can,” “may,” or “potential.”

      >Companies with legitimate products and offers wouldn’t require a weasel clause in their          warranty.

     >You want to associate with a company that has an iron-clad warranty.

5. The people offering the opportunity are located in some obscure country. Legitimate opportunities     can come from anywhere, but if the company in question is located in someplace like Liberia, there’s reason for additional caution.

6. An offer talks more about the magical marketing than the magical product. A great business opportunity has a great product, exclusivity, or a great brand behind it. The marketing should come    second.

7.Be especially weary of opportunities that cost less than $20,000 and involve an out of            state company. It’s too costly and difficult to sue an out of state company with the current      commerce laws. Federal prosecutors typically won’t look at anything less than $30,000          because they are simply too busy.

8. Ads in newspapers and magazines that have little information besides outrageous claims     and a toll- free number. Street Journal doesn’t mean it’s legitimate.

Always protect yourself. There are several    ways to check on the legitimacy of the company in question. You can contact your state’s Attorney  General and the Better Business Bureau. Just remember that a lack of complaints isn’t a guarantee that you aren’t being scammed.

If you feel that you were taken advantage of, ask for your money  back. If dosn't work, let the Attorney General’s office know what happened. Provide any relevant
correspondence.

When faced with a business opportunity, move slowly and be cautious. If you are pressed to make a quick decision, that’s probably a good reason to say no". Keep on eye out for the warning signs and protect your money

Money for Your Junk: A Guide to Selling on Facebook

Most of us simply have too much stuff. This extra stuff gets in the way, costs you time and money, and causes stress.

If you think about the things that you really love and use regularly, you’ll probably find that you have a lot more stuff than you really need, right?

It’s probably too late to take all of your extra possessions back to the store, but you can always sell them. While you might have sold items at a yard sale or on Craig’s List, you probably haven’t used Facebook to unload your junk. That’s unfortunate, considering how many people are on Facebook each day.

Use the following tips to leverage Facebook and sell your unwanted items:

1. Find the active local sales groups. Even fairly small areas will usually have a yard sale group or    other similar group with a few thousand members or more!

.Everyone knows how committed both yard sale lovers and Facebook
people can be.

A lot of eyes will see your item within 24 hours.

The more people that see your item, the more likely you are to get rid of it quickly.

2. Follow the rules. Different groups have different rules. For example, some require pictures.

Follow the rules and use them to your best advantage.

Some have rules about who has the first chance to purchase the item.
There are usually rules about when an item can be bumped back to the top of the list.

3. Take good pictures. Get a friend to help if you have trouble taking pictures. Be sure the pictures     you post are in focus with good lighting.

Let buyers see what they need to by choosing a good angle for your photo.

4. Post at just the right time. Be smart about when you post your items. The ideal time to post is            when   people are perusing the listings, but not a lot of things are getting posted.

If you post your item when everyone else does, yours can get lost in the shuffle.

Try to take note of when people are claiming items and when items are posted.

5.Write an accurate description and take care of your own needs. The group may have a policy that   whoever claims the item has 48 hours to take the item away. But if you want it gone today, put         that  in the posting.

It could be problematic if someone took 48 hours to show up and then decided agains purchasing    the item.

6.Be available. Those that are interested are bound to have questions. Keep your phone and computer handy and reply promptly to inquiries.

People will move on to other items if they can’t get their questions answered in a timely fashion.

7. Stay organized. This is especially important if you have several items for sale. It can be helpful      to keep a post-it note on each item. You can list the buyer’s name, contact information, expected      pick-up date, time of pick-up, and the price.

Most people never consider selling items on Facebook, but it can be a quick, easy, and free way to get rid of the items cluttering your life. Everyone could use a little extra money and more elbowroom. So clean out the garage, attic, and closets.

Facebook is a hugely popular website with a very active user base. Your unnecessary items will be gone in a flash. Why not give it a try?

Six Simple Steps to Reduce Personal Debt

Six Simple Steps to Reduce Personal Debt

Paying off your bad debt so you can build great wealth
When my first business failed, I personally had over $1 million in debt that needed to be paid off. Those were hard times for Kim and me. For a short time we even lived in our car.
Having as much debt as we did, coupled with the emotions of losing my business, it would have been easy to roll over, get a good job, and give up on my dream of building a successful business. I’d be lying if I didn’t say it wasn’t tempting.
Thankfully, we didn’t give into that temptation. Instead we made a plan.
Using all we had learned about money and how it worked, we looked for great opportunities to build our asset column—and eliminate our personal consumer debt—bad debt. By implementing this plan, we were completely debt free within a few years and on our way to financial freedom.
The following are the six simple steps you can use to eliminate your personal debt. If you implement them, they will work.
Step #1 – Lock it down
If you have credit cards with outstanding balances, discipline yourself to use only one or two credit cards. Any new charges must be paid off in full every month. Do not incur any more long-term debt.
Step #2 – Up the ante
Come up with $150 to $200 extra per month. If you have a good financial education and understand how to have money work for you, this should be relatively easy to do. If you can’t generate an additional $150 to $200 per month, then your chances for financial freedom may only be a pipe dream.
Step #3 – Focus on one
Apply the additional $150 to $200 to your monthly payment on only one of your credit cards. You will now pay the minimum payment plus the extra money on that one credit card.
Pay only the minimum amount due on all other credit cards. Often people try to pay a little extra each month on all their cards, but those cards surprisingly never get paid off.
Step #4 – Keep it rolling
Once the first card is paid off, apply the total amount you were paying each month on that card to your next credit card. You are now paying the minimum amount due on the second card plus the total monthly payment you were paying on your first credit card.
Continue this process with all your credit cards and other consumer-credit debt. With each debt you pay off, apply the full amount you were paying on that debt to the minimum payment of your next debt. As you pay off each debt, the monthly amount you are paying on the next debt will escalate.
Step #5 – Go big
Once all your credit cards and other consumer debt are paid off, continue the procedure with your car and house payments. If you follow this procedure, you will be amazed at the shortened amount of time it takes for you to be completely debt-free. Most people can be debt-free within five-to- seven years.
Step #6 – Build your wealth
Now that you are completely debt-free, take the monthly amount you were paying on your last debt, and put that money toward investments. Build your asset column.
That’s how simple it is.
